AMAN publishes a newsletter four times a year in French and in English entitled "Le Mercien", and sends it to members and sponsors of AMAN, the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (National Library and Archives of Quebec) and Library and Archives Canada. Each newsletter contains an editorial, a message from the president, member activities, invitations and various other types of information.
AMAN members and all other interested persons may contribute to Le Mercien by submitting articles, photographs, genealogical and historical information, tributes and anecdotes, as well as by promoting regional events and making announcements relating to Mercier families. Send a request or submit the information by e-mail directly to the editor (

One of the raisons d’être of a family association is to facilitate genealogical research on the family’s ancestors. AMAN maintains a database of Mercier ancestors including the spousal line. A genealogical dictionary is currently being created. The date of publication of this dictionary has not yet been determined.
AMAN’s database is presently not accessible either by AMAN members or by the general public. Only a few authorized persons have access to it. AMAN accepts all genealogical and historical contributions from people who are interested in expanding this genealogical database for future generations. However, AMAN will provide and share certain genealogical information in exchange for any traceable information that is not already contained in the database.
If you wish to obtain information on a line of descendants, please refer to the "Genealogy" section, and send by e-mail or letter a completed "Request Form". |

AMAN is mandated to hold a members’ meeting at least once a year so that the board members can report on the work they did throughout the year from July 1st of the previous year until June 30th of the current year, and to elect new board members. This meeting is usually held on the last weekend of August in locations where members of Mercier families live. Attempts are made to rotate the locations of meetings amongst the principal regions of the province.
Annual Meetings generally include group tours to enable members and guests to socialize and get to know the region where some of their ancestors settled.
Please refer to the "Activities" section to find out the date and location of the next annual meeting. Meeting invitations are published in "Le Mercien". |

AMAN usually participates in various fairs that are organized by the "Fédération des familles-souches du Québec" (a Quebec family association).
In Quebec City, the Salon des familles (the families’ fair) takes place at "Place Laurier" in February every year. AMAN also participates in other genealogical fairs that are held in October in one of the following cities: Montreal, Rimouski, Gatineau, Saguenay or Sherbrooke.
At these fairs, it is possible to discover the first names of our ancestors and their spouses, consult previous newsletters and various works published by members of Mercier families about their ancestors and obtain various promotional items, etc.
Please refer to the "Activities" section to find out the dates and locations of upcoming fairs. |
